First impression

As every each of us felt the necessity of a getaway vacation once in their life after a very stressful period of time with lots of things to do, even just for a weekend, I booked with only two weeks in advance a getaway for me and some friends of mine.

At the very first glimpse I thought that Hotel Nevis Wellness &Spa is the right choice for a relaxing getaway for a February weekend, but it turned out that it’s really not like that and let me show you why by getting correctly and chronologically in this `story time`.

General information

Looking at these photos from Booking, seeing a lot of good and actually very good feedbacks from people that have been there besides the costs which are high to be honest, I thought that by all means this hotel must be really good. However we had a shock when we arrived. Not to mention that the hotel was far from four stars, but the rooms weren’t isolated so you could hear the people from the next door. Besides that, the bathroom was horrible for a 4star hotel too. To be honest, I’ve seen holiday pensions looking better.

Anyways, let’s continue with the general information and the further details about my personal feedback will be in the next paragraphs.

Info via Booking.com - „Hotel Nevis Wellness & SPA is a 3-minute drive from the Oradea city centre and features free WiFi and a spa centre with indoor pool, a hot tub, a tropical shower, a sauna and a steam bath. All rooms are spacious and decorated in pastel colours, all units come with a flat-screen satellite TV and a minibar. Further facilities include a well-appointed conference room for up to 150 participants.

Dining options at Hotel Nevis Wellness & SPA include buffet style as well as à la carte dishes, serving traditional Romanian as well as international cuisine. Free parking is available on site. The hotel is a 7-minute drive from Oradea Airport and a 15-minute drive from the Hungarian border.

Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 8.5 for a two-person trip.

The reality

The rooms as I’ve said before were very disappointing but clean though, so you could at least spend the night sleeping peacefully. What I personally found as an issue was the heating system which was very bad. A 4star hotel for which you pay 300-400RON/night which doesn’t have a proper heating system to run smoothly, isolated walls so you can talk as loud as you can or want, is not a true 4star hotel. The heating system had an issue in the whole hotel, and even at the restaurant we had to bring a jacket. Pretty sad, Nevis. And that’s not everything that I noticed.

Rating score

Although everything had more cons than pros, I was surprised by the quality and the diversity of food and wellness facilities. I’m leaving the score rate below for every category that you might want to have an idea about, a realistic idea, because in my opinion it’s far from ‘fabulous’ as Booking.com rated it. (Rate scale: 1-10)

• Food- a nice variety, the quality stands out for sure-10;

• Wellness and spa- even though the pool and the Jacuzzi weren’t too big, the saunas and the massages hours compensated- 10;

• Accommodation- needless to say anything in plus. It was fine but not for a four star hotel with such prices/night – 7;

• Staff- doing its job but not so friendly except for a waiter and a few masseurs- 9;

• Cleaning Status -rooms- good: 8.5-9;

• Cleaning Status- wellness & spa- excellent: 10.

The final thought

All in all I’m aware that it could have been worse and I may seem a little bit exaggerated in this article with this review, but the costs made me do it and the fact that A LOT of people go there and rate it as fabulous. At these prices you can go to Baile Felix in the same county and find luxury, like for real. Check my article with it if you don’t believe me. ;)

It’s a good hotel to stay for a night or to try something new, but unfortunately not to come back other vacations. If you want to spend your money, spend them wisely and smart. Go somewhere where you can find luxury at these prices or at least conditions that provide a proof of the money you were asked for, because otherwise you’ll find yourself very angry, anxiously and irritated as I found myself. Compare at first, and then choose the best location, and please consider ALL the feedbacks, not just the good part of them.

What we had visited in the meantime

„Țării Crișurilor Oradea”- Museum Complex

For a breath of fresh air we have decided to go for a walk and so we arrived at „Țării Crișurilor Oradea”- Museum. It is a museum of art and science, located in Oradea and it was inaugurated on January 17, 1971, in the restored building of the Baroque Palace.

The palace is a large building, composed of three U-shaped wings and is the largest and most important Baroque building in Romania. It also has four sections open for the public eye: the art section, the science one, the historical and Ethnographic one.

Covid-19 restrictions

We were required to show either a vaccination document, or a document certifying the recovery from COVID-19, or a negative RT-PCR test not older than 72 hours, or a negative rapid antigen test not older than 48 hours.

Ticket prices

Museum ticket price: Adults: 15 lei / pers. Children over 4 years, pupils, students, pensioners: 5 lei. Guides are not made at the moment.

Vivariu ticket price: Adults: 10 lei / pers. Children over 4 years, pupils, students, pensioners: 5 lei.

The Freemasonry Temple

The former headquarters of the Masonic Lodge is one of the most interesting and spectacular in Oradea, in terms of architecture and facade decorations. The organization of the spaces intended for the visit presents the structure of the initial Masonic lodge with the Temple Hall, the Hall of the Lost Steps, the Reflection Cabinet, the Office of the Master of the Lodge and the exhibition hall with specific objects.

The plan for arranging the permanent exhibition includes both the enhancement of the rooms according to their name and the presentation of specific objects and furniture in a unique way.

Thank you all for reading my article and in the meantime please stay safe and healthy! With this pandemic situation and also the new Russian War, please inform yourself just from the governmental sources and keep your calm as much as you can. After all, it’s all we can do besides to hope, manifest and pray for both sides but mostly for Ukraine, which is terrified and hit at maximum.

See you in the next article!

Much love,

~Lore^^
